EPS Young Talent: Tom Corsmit

Talent cannot be taken for granted. If, like EPS, you even have a group of young talents, you are of course very proud of that. That is why we introduce an EPS Talent to you every week in random order for the coming period. This week we focus on Application Engineer Tom Corsmit (21 years old).

“I did my final internship MbO Technician Engineering at EPS. I soon discovered that there are many interesting challenges within the company and that I have a lot of room to learn new things.” But there is more, according to Tom: “We have a very nice team and great customers with whom we work closely,” which made pump technology for Tom very interesting during his internship.

“My work as an application engineer means that I develop orders together with colleagues from the sales project team. As soon as one of the sales engineers scores an order, he hands it over to me. Then I work it out.” What does that mean? “For example I design the frame on which the pump and motor will be placed. I also make a technical drawing with all the instrumentation so that the customer and our technicians know exactly how the installation should be built. This also includes the piping calculations and a lot of other technical details.”

When asked why he likes his work so much, Tom answers: “For me, it is mainly that no day is the same and I also love the challenge of the technology itself. One day I am drawing 3-D and the next day I take my own design to a supplier to discuss possibilities. Awesome! I also work closely with a friendly and honest sales team in which I am the youngest, but I can discuss with them very well.”

A fun, but also quite tough job? “In the beginning I found it difficult to keep up with the work pace. I just left school and the business world can be quite impressive. Over time you get into it and get used to everything. The challenge for me now is that I want to please everyone, which sometimes makes you jump from one thing to another. Yet, that also has its advantages because it provides challenges and variety that I really enjoy.”

Tom has the following advice for his peers: “As soon as you get out of the books and you are ready to enter the business world, I recommend choosing a technical branch that already interests you before you even know the company. if you choose something that gives you motivation and pleasure – and if you also have nice colleagues around you, everything will always turn out well and I can tell!”
