EPS Young Talent: Marvin Schut

Talent cannot be taken for granted. So if, like us at EPS, you have a number of young talents, you are of course very proud of that. That is why we will introduce an EPS Talent to you every week in the coming period. We do this in random order, by the way. This week we focus on Project Engineer Marvin Schut (23 years old).

“I ended up at EPS by chance, through a friend of mine. After my Maritime Officer Technical education at the SCALDA in Vlissingen, I looked around and soon came into contact with EPS. I first worked as a service engineer (mechanic). That is repair and installation of pump installations and that has taught me a lot. I know what it is like to work as a mechanic and understand what they sometimes encounter and I know what concerns customers. That helps me a lot in my current role as Project Engineer,” says Marvin enthusiastically.

What does the role of Project Engineer actually entail, according to Marvin? Marvin continues: “In my job I am responsible for the correct preparation and of course the correct implementation of service projects for maintenance and overhaul of pumps and everything around that. I mainly deal with the technical side of the assignments: estimating how long the service job will take, calculations and the coordination of the work. At EPS you are also present on-site with customers during work if necessary. Then you immediately have a good idea of ​​the progress of the project and you can prevent any technical problems – or solve them together with the service engineer.” But there is more, Marvin indicates: “I also manage the planning of the service engineers and that is very dynamic and always a challenge!”

So it’s a pretty tough job for such a relatively young professional. “The diversity of the work makes it difficult but also a lot of fun. At EPS you quickly get the opportunity to take on a lot of responsibility,” says Marvin. Everything is different every day in a service organization. “The customer contact and the conversations with the engineers alternate, so that you tackle the challenges together and evaluate them together. I often look back with satisfaction. And in the end, nothing is really annoying or difficult because you have each other. There is a solution for everything.”

What advice would Marvin give to anyone starting their career? “Find out what really matters to you. For me, that is a challenge, variety in the work and the prospect of growth. But also job satisfaction, and just like at EPS, you need nice colleagues for that. We have it!”
